[10:00am] Washington: Junior Drop-in Programs
Stop in Saturdays in January for a variety of winter crafts, STEM challenges, and cultural celebrations. January 4: Winter Experiments. Learn about what causes condensation and frost, build and melt a snowman in record time, create a snowstorm in a jar, make snow slime and explore other scientific aspects of winter. January 11: STEM Snowflakes. Have you ever built a snowflake? Come try it. While here, shake up a flurry of fun by building your very own snow globe, using items like marshmallows, tips, and toothpicks to create sparkly snowflakes. January 18: Blizzard in a Bottle. Winter storms can be so boring but not when you control the weather. Make your very own blizzard with vegetable oil, food coloring, and glitter and become your very own Jack Frost. January 25: Lunar New Year Celebration. It's the year of the Rat, a sign of wealth and surplus. Come celebrate with a variety of activities, games and crafts. Make a paper lantern, learn about Asian letters and numbers, make your own dumplings to-go, explore the Chinese Suitcase Adventure, and more. Registration is requested.

[11:00am] Hartford: Winterfest
Winterfest Hartford is back, providing free winter fun for the whole family. The skating rink in Bushnell Park is open daily from 11 am to 8 pm free ice skating and free skate rentals. Special events: November 30-December 22: Photos with Santa. Winterest would not be complete without a visit to Santa, so head over to the Carousel and have your photo taken with him on Saturdays and Sundays, from noon until 3 p.m. December 2-January 13: Music Mondays Nights. Monday nights at the rink skating to the sounds of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s and Disney, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. December 6: Glow in the Dark Skate. Come and have a fun glow night at the rink. Glow necklaces and bracelets will be handed out to skaters (while supplies last). 5 p.m.-7 p.m. December 12: Back to the Times Carol Sing. One of Hartford's most wonderful holiday traditions is back for another year. Join us for carol singing on the steps of the old Hartford Times building (aka UConn Hartford on Prospect Street at 5 p.m., caroling begins at 5:30 p.m.
