Description:
Join us every Friday and Saturday for a mini-maker project from our MakerLab! Every month we will feature a quick project or new piece of equipment to mess around with. The results may have you leaving with something to physically take home OR just the satisfaction that you were able to create a circuit, power on an Arduino or thread a sewing machine. The projects are easy, meant for all ages and 100% drop-in. It is just up to you to find out which floor we are featuring the project on and drop on by. Registration for this table is not required – just come ready to tinker, play and create!

[10:00am] South Windsor: Gingerbread House Festival
Description:
Celebrate “Winter Birds and Holiday Traditions” this year at one of the largest gingerbread house festivals in New England. We will be winding up our year-long celebration of nature and the 110th anniversary of the Hartford Audubon Society with a “Winter Birds and Holiday Traditions” theme. In fact, the annual Christmas Bird Count started out as an alternative to a tradition of that era to go hunting on Christmas Day. Gaze upon row after row of creative and colorful gingerbread creations, all made by regional artisans and bakers, students and community members, expert and beginner alike. The Wood, located on historic Old Main Street, provides the perfect holiday venue for showcasing the sugary artistic creations among sparkling lights and colorful decor. Musical performances, story time and craft events, even visits from Santa will be scattered throughout the festival and don’t forget to stop by “Ye Olde Gingerbread Shoppe” for the opportunity to take home a bit of the magic with many holiday themed gifts and treats. Leading up to the festival The Wood will be offering children’s and adult gingerbread house workshops, providing a chance to learn the basics or design like a pro.


[11:00am] Hartford: Winterfest
Description:
Winterfest Hartford is back, providing free winter fun for the whole family. The skating rink in Bushnell Park is open daily from 11 am to 8 pm free ice skating and free skate rentals. Special events: November 30-December 22: Photos with Santa. Winterest would not be complete without a visit to Santa, so head over to the Carousel and have your photo taken with him on Saturdays and Sundays, from noon until 3 p.m. December 2-January 13: Music Mondays Nights. Monday nights at the rink skating to the sounds of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s and Disney, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. December 6: Glow in the Dark Skate. Come and have a fun glow night at the rink. Glow necklaces and bracelets will be handed out to skaters (while supplies last). 5 p.m.-7 p.m. December 12: Back to the Times Carol Sing. One of Hartford's most wonderful holiday traditions is back for another year. Join us for carol singing on the steps of the old Hartford Times building (aka UConn Hartford on Prospect Street at 5 p.m., caroling begins at 5:30 p.m.

[11:00am] Kent: Gingerbread Festival
Description:
Kent will once again be the scene for one of the largest Gingerbread Festivals in Connecticut. Dozens of gingerbread creations will be revealed in participating shops in Kent throughout December. Sponsored by the Kent Chamber of Commerce, Frank Food Co., High Watch Recovery Center, Bain Real Estate and The Marvelwood School. Many of the places feature colorful gingerbread houses for the holidays, but Kent, CT goes a step further. The entire town will take place in this sugary sweet celebration. Everyone is invited to follow the Gingerbread Walk through town to view imaginative and ingenious gingerbread delights. Visitors can enjoy the displays as they navigate the gingerbread map and solve the mysterious riddle the Ginger Girls have cooked up this year. At the end, we need you to vote for your favorite creations. Displays are guaranteed to delight all ages! In addition to gingerbread displays, Kent will have special holiday events every weekend, from cookie decorating classes to Pancakes with Santa and a Messiah sing-along.

Illumination of more than 350,000 twinkling, white lights. There are over 200 figures and buildings that are decorated with the lights in this spectacular display.

[5:00pm] Plainville: Tree Lighting and Holiday Stroll
Description:
The Plainville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 27th Annual Plainville Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Stroll. The event includes holiday caroling, the lighting of the Town tree, visits from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and horse and buggy rides through downtown. Refreshments will be made available. Please also visit our local downtown merchants as they will be hosting special offers and raffles throughout the night and weekend.

[6:00pm] Washington Depot: Holiday in the Depot
Description:
Come take part in the town’s annual Holiday in the Depot! The festivities will kick off with the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree and carols sung by students at the Washington Montessori School. Shortly after, Santa will arrive by a horse-drawn wagon and children will be able to tell him their wishes as well as pose for a photo. Washington will be glowing bright with holiday lights and cheer. As you stroll through the Depot, be sure to stop at the local shops to admire their wreath displays and enjoy some tasty treats. Throughout the evening, carolers will be roaming around the Depot and they will serenade you with traditional holiday songs as you explore the town. This is just a sampling of all that will be happening, so please come to Washington with friends and family. This is a great opportunity for those who have never visited (or heard!) of Washington to become acquainted with the town and all the wonderful things it has to offer. Celebrate, eat, explore, and be merry at the Holiday in the Depot. You won’t want to miss it!
